You will learn that a machinist creates precision parts which are then used in almost everything you see. As well as learning the fundamentals of engineering theory and manufacturing processes, you will gain experience in using the latest computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools to cut, drill and finish components.
Work As an apprentice, you'll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You'll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff. What you'll do at work You will study on a Level 3 Machining Technician Standard. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3: EAL L3 Extended diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge) During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield's AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis.
