OVERVIEW

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2024 will be held in December 2023, and the tentative dates will be available in May 2023. The test is conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in law colleges across India. It is taken once a year in offline mode. Here are the comprehensive details regarding the exam pattern, registration process, fees, and eligibility for CLAT 2024.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Candidates aspiring to appear for CLAT 2024 should fulfill the following eligibility criteria-

  • UG-CLAT candidates should have cleared Class 12 or equivalent exam with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC/ST categories)
  • PG-CLAT candidates should be law graduates (3-year LLB or 5-year LLB) with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST candidates)
  • There is no age limit and students can appear for as many attempts as they want

WHAT IS IT FOR?

The CLAT exam is a national-level exam for students looking to pursue 5-year integrated LLB and LLM programmes in 22 national law universities and over 60 affiliated law schools across the country.

EXAM PATTERN

The CLAT 2024 will be conducted in pen-and-paper mode with MCQs from the comprehension paragraph. The two-hour exam will comprise 150 questions for the UG level and 120 questions for the PG level. Each correct answer will get one mark, and 0.25 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer. Let us explain the exam pattern in detail.

The exam will be for 120 marks and will have the following sections-

  • Section A- Constitutional Law
  • Section B- Torts, Contract, IPR, Jurisprudence, Criminal Law, and International Law
  • Section C- Law topics & Contemporary issues

REGISTRATION PROCESS & APPLICATION FEES

Once the dates for CLAT 2024 are out, candidates can register online on the official website. They need to fill out the application with personal details, upload the necessary document, select a preferred test centre, and pay the fee online to complete the process. The application fee details for the exam are as follows-

  • General, OBC, PwD candidates - INR 4,000
  • SC and ST candidates- INR 3,500

PRACTICE EXAM

Candidates require 8-12 months of preparation time for the CLAT 2024 exam to secure a good rank for admission to the top national law universities.
