Over the years, France has emerged as one of the most popular study-abroad destinations for Indian students favouring international education in Europe. The country offers high-quality education in leading universities covering diverse disciplines and areas of interest. Language is not a constraint because most courses are taught in English. Moreover, a growing number of Indian students are keen to embrace French as an additional language.

Study-abroad aspirants from India now have another valid reason to priortise France as their destination. According to the latest update, students completing their Master’s studies in France will get a five-year post-study visa, allowing them to stay and work longer in the country. PM Narendra Modi shared this great news while addressing the Indian Community in Paris during his recent visit to France.

While all Indian students studying in France are granted a two-year work visa upon completing their programmes in the country, all Master’s degrees open an extended access to a five-year stay. The move offers better opportunities for Indians studying in France and fosters cross-cultural collaboration between both countries. It will also enhance the inflow of Indian students in France, regardless of the popularity of English-speaking destinations such as the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

With France’s post-study visa, nationals of other countries can continue living and working in the country after completing their Master’s studies here. Indian students can find a job in France and work during this period. But they will have to leave if their visa does not get an extension or they are unable to find a job.

According to statistics, more than 10,000 Indian students studied in France in 2019. Following this, the numbers witnessed a slump due to the pandemic and travel restrictions. The numbers started increasing after the pandemic situation was resolved. But this announcement will likely get them soaring in the coming years.
