JEE Main is the initial phase of the IIT Joint Entrance Exam (IIT JEE). The computer-based is conducted by the National Testing Agency online for students planning to pursue undergraduate courses in leading Indian engineering institutes. Let us explain the eligibility criteria, exam pattern, the application process, dates, and other details related to the JEE Main.
According to the latest notification, the following candidates are eligible to appear for JEE Mains 2024-
Students can get admission to IITs, NITs, CFTIs, and other Government funded technical institutes according to the JEE scores. Ranks and merit lists are based on the best NTA score. The Paper 1 of JEE Main is for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programmes and also leads to JEE Advanced. Paper 2 is for candidates seeking admission to B. Arch. and B. Planning programmes. Both papers have three sections on Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
JEE Main exam pattern is provided by NTA, and students can check details from the official website jeemain.nta.nic.in. It is crucial to understand the exam pattern to prepare well and attempt confidently. Here are a few details worth knowing-
Each paper is conducted in English, Hindi, and other languages including Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. The exam is held online with the exception of the drawing section of paper 2A.
JEE Main exam will be held in two shifts daily Shift 1 and Shift 2. Here are the detailed timelines for both shifts.

Application fee for a single paper for male and female candidates in
General/Gen-EWS/OBC (NCL) is INR 1000 and INR 800 respectively.
The amount is INR 500 for SC/ST/PwD/Transgender candidates.
Application form fee is non-refundable.
The JEE Main admit card 2024 will be released on the website soon. Besides the exam dates, the other key dates students should know about are the registration date, admit card date, and result date. Here are the details of important dates for JEE Main 2024 -

International candidates looking for admissions at NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs also mandatorily need to appear for JEE Mains. But admissions are done through Direct Admission for Students Aboard (DASA). These candidates have to fill in the specific information on the application form, pay a bit higher application fee, and submit additional documents such as their passport, birth certificate, citizenship certificate, student visa, and residence permit.
