ABOUT Mar Baselios Dental College Kothamangalam
Mar Baselios Dental College (MBDC), Kothamangalam, founded in 2002, is the first dental college in Kerala that was started in the self-financing sector. The College is a minority institution managed by the Mar Baselios Medical Mission Trust. It is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), Thrissur, and recognized by the Dental Council of India, New Delhi. The present eminence of the College makes it the most preferred college for the students aspiring for dental education. The sprawling green campus of more than 7 acres is located at Thankalam, 2 km northwest of Kothamangalam Town, in the Ernakulam District, Kerala State, India. The nearest railway station is Aluva, 30 km west and the nearest airport is Cochin International Airport 30 km northwest of the College. The idyllic location of the campus enjoys the refreshing aura of the rural ambiance. The College offers a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme with an annual intake of 60 and seven postgraduate programmes in different specializations –Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics, Oral Medicine and Radiology, Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Periodontics and Implantology, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics. The College has state-of-the-art infrastructure with advanced facilities for effective teaching, learning, and better diagnosis and management. ICT-enabled air-conditioned classrooms and well-equipped laboratories and clinical departments, well-stocked Central Library with more than 6000 volumes and about 150 research journals including 57 e-journals, provide ample opportunities for quality learning and research. It has its hospital at Kothamangalam – Mar Baselios Medical Mission Hospital-with 380 beds and two satellite centres in the neighborhood. There are two women’s hostels and one men’s hostel with modern amenities available on the campus.
