Massey University
ABOUT Massey University
Massey has a long, proud tradition of breaking new ground in all our areas of expertise – business, creative art, health, science, humanities and social science. Massey began as an agricultural college in Palmerston North. It officially opened on 20 March 1928 as a fully constituent college of the University of New Zealand. When the University of New Zealand was dissolved in 1961, most of its constituent colleges became autonomous universities. Massey Agricultural College was renamed Massey College and elected to associate itself with Victoria University of Wellington, until Massey could attain full autonomy. Massey University College of Manawatu became Massey University of Manawatu on 1 January 1964 under the Massey University of Manawatu Act 1963. The new university had full autonomy and degree-conferring powers under the Act. The name was shortened in 1966 to Massey University.
