The University of Caen Basse-Normandie unique in its region, and is a major driving force for development of higher education and research in Normandy. Founded in 1432 by King Henry VI of England, the University of Caen Basse-Normandie is one of the oldest French universities . Universities of Caen at a glance: More than 24,000 students, including 11,000 undergraduates enrolled (DUT, licensing), 4800 second cycle (Master), more than 285 in engineering, 2,485 postgraduate (PhD and DES), more than 2700 are registered on average in other courses (aggregation, CAPES, health studies) across sites of training courses covering the entire regional territory: Caen , Cherbourg, Alençon, Saint-Lo, Vire, Lisieux. The demographics and the development of research units led the University of Caen Basse-Normandie, supported by state and local authorities, to implement several campuses of the Greater Caen and 6 university sites that bring together the regional territory: Caen, Alençon, Cherbourg, Lisieux, St. Lo, Vire.
