About Community Service Photojournalism: Contest Lessons Part 1

This course presents the work honored by American Society of News Editors as the best community service photojournalism of 2005. The work examines three approaches to community service photojournalism - through individual storytelling, through watchdog photojournalism and through connecting with under-covered communities. You will see how to apply those approaches by analyzing the work of ASNE winner Carol Guzy, of The Washington Post, and finalists Robert Gauthier, of the Los Angeles Times, and Manny Crisostomo, of The Sacramento Bee. And you will see and hear judges comments about the honored work.
